Strategies for avoiding formatting issues
arising from MS Word transmitted formatting:

Reformatting your text from Word once in WordPress will always be required
suggestions listed below will simplify the process

1. You can simply avoid pasting from MS Word into WordPress altogether. Type your text into WordPress directly, and never paste from MS Word.
   
   
2. Go to Settings > Writing and select " ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically" and then scroll down and click "Save Changes."
   
   Use a Text Editor as an intermediary. You can copy from Word and paste into a text editor, save as text only, and then copy/paste into WordPress. On Mac copy from Word and paste into TextEdit go to Format – select "Make Plain Text" copy and paste plain text into WordPress
   
   
3. Use HTML View. Any time you want to paste from MS Word, paste into WordPress using the HTML view in the editor. And check to make sure no formatting came across. This option isn't that hard, you'll just need to get familiar with the HTML tab in the WordPress editor.
