Week 1

Animating text with Effects & Presets and Transform:
Create a folder on the desktop named “your full name text animation”
.... Create three folders inside the new folder:

1. Your Name text animation assists
2. Your Name text animation drafts
3. Your Name text animation final

Launch After Effects - New Project - File - Save As - Save As
.... Choose your folder on the desktop -
.... .... save file as “Your last name text animation”

In class text animation assignment:
Retrieve “take-off.mov file and put in “Your Name text animation assists” folder
File - import - file - locate “take-off.mov: file in your assets folder - and import
Drag “take-off.mov” to the timeline
Select Type tool - draw type box over the airplane movie in the preview window
.... Type “On our way” - choose font and style and size and color etc.
Select the type layer with “On our way” and duplicate it
.... Edit Copy - Edit Paste
Select “Effects & Presets - Animation Presets - Text –
.... Animation out - slide off right by character - double click
Slide the animate text layer to the right
Shorten the original “On our way” text layer
Play the animation - adjust as necessary
File - export - Add to render queue
.... Under Render Settings - choose - Best Settings
.... Under Output Modules - Lossless –
.... Next to Output To - click on file name –
.... .... Navigate to “Your Name text animation drafts” folder
.... .... Add your name in front of the file name “take-off”
Render

Due start of 2nd class text assignment
Retrieve “jellyfish.mov” file and put in “Your Name text animation assists” folder
File - import - file - locate “jellyfish: file in your assets folder - and import
Drag “jellyfish” to the timeline
Select Type tool - draw type box over the jellyfish movie in the preview window
.... Type a relevant title for the jellyfish movie - choose font and style, color etc.
Select the type layer with your title on it
Under the text layer select – Transform
.... Select Position – select stopwatch next to position
.... Hold down Control key – select open box in center of text box –
.... Drag to new position – move timeline play head – click on anchor point
Repeat this for each of the additional Transformations
.... Scale
.... Rotation
.... Opacity
....All 4 transformation can be added to the same text or to separate text
Play the animation - adjust as necessary
File - export - Add to render queue
.... Under Render Settings - choose - Best Settings
.... Under Output Modules - Lossless –
.... Next to Output To - click on file name –
.... Navigate to “Your Name text animation drafts” folder
.... Add your name in front of the file name “jellyfish”
Render then upload your rendered file to the assgnment google drive folder

Week 2

  1. Importing from Illustrator and Photoshop - File - Import - Composition - Maintain layer size
  2. Exporting - Select composition - Export - Add To Adobe Media Encoder Queue

 

In class keyframe and path animation assignment:
1. Frame Animation - balloon
2. Animate along a path - car on road
3. Adjusting keyframes to create dynamic movement - Mountain logo
4. Createing shape layers - Star

Due start of 3rd class text assignment
Using file provided in class

  1. Create a new project - Save as - Save as - "your name doing"
  2. Import "Stop start.psd" - composition - 10 seconds length
  3. "Stop" type appears and flashes on and off
  4. Cloud with "Dreaming" type floats onto the page - with adjusted movement
  5. "Start" type and red rays appear and stay on the screen and flash on and off alternately with "Stop" type
  6. "Doing" type appears
  7. Face enters from right and follows a path along the edge of the top of the cloud - with adjusted movement
  8. Create a vector layer with a star(s) or cloud(s) and animate it
  9. Export - Adobe Media Encoder Queue - Play/render Format H.264 Preset YouTube 1080p Full HD, Output File - Click navigate to "your name doing final" folder
    Make sure "Auto-Encode Watch Folders" is checked - click green start button
  10. Add MP3 file to class google drive folder

Week 3
  1. Review Stop & Start assignments
  2. Stop & Start - Replacing background image
  3. Isolate elements with the Roto Brush
  4. Adding and editing audio - Edit - split layer - layer sound off - select all layers - Layer - Pre-compose - tutorial
    Sound and music resources
  5. Use parenting to tie the movements of multiple layers together.

In class isolate element assignment:
1. Isolate elements with the Roto Brush - Flower and bee
2. Isolate elements with the Roto Brush or Pen tool - Spinning earth
.... Using earth video clip Isolate spinning earth

  1. Change background
  2. Reposition earth
  3. Add an animated title
  4. Add "earthmusic"
  5. Export - Adobe Media Encoder Queue -
    .... name the file "your last name earth"
  6. Render then upload your rendered file to the assignment google drive folder

3. Photoshop layers animation - Raised hands

  1. Select a hand - copy and paste name layer 1st hand
  2. repeat 2 more times - name layers 2nd hand and 3rd hand
  3. Save file as .PDS and label "Your last name raised hands"
  4. Change the fill color for each hand - save
  5. Import the .psd file in After Effects
  6. Put each hand layer on a separate timeline layer
  7. Animate each hand layer to raise one after another
  8. Export - Adobe Media Encoder Queue -
    .... name the file "your last name raised hands"
  9. Render then upload your rendered file to the assignment google drive folder

4. Use parenting - machine

Due start of 5th week - take home skills test - animated poster
Using files provided - immigration or copyright free files of your choice resources

Extra credit if you use your own original illustrations or photographs or video clips

Create a new 15 - 30 second project - Save as - Save as - "your name take home final" and include the following:

  1. Video clip
  2. Photography and or illustration
  3. Type - quote/fact about immigration and/or refugees and/or asylum
  4. At least 3 different animation techniques: frame animation, path animation, adjusted keyframes, shape layers, Isolate elements, parenting
  5. Export - Adobe Media Encoder Queue - Play/render Format H.264 Preset YouTube 1080p Full HD, Output File - Click navigate to "your name take home final" folder
    Make sure "Auto-Encode Watch Folders" is checked - click green start button
  6. Add MP3 file to class Google drive folder

  3. Importing After Effects compositions in Premier
  • In Adobe Premiere Pro, choose File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Composition.
  • In Adobe Premiere Pro, choose an After Effects project file and click Open.
  • Drag one or more compositions from the After Effects Project panel to the Adobe Premiere Pro Project panel.
